Outreach Ministries

Although our Congregation is small, we are proud that we are able to give a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of our annual income to various Outreach Ministries! We're always willing to adopt new ministries as future needs arise.

Judeo Christian Outreach Center

We participate in the JCOC Community Program, which consists of feeding their homeless residents and neighbors a good, wholesome meal once a day.  Everyone in the community is welcome to join for dinner, homeless or not, which is served at 6:00 p.m. daily.  St. Simon's parishioners provide meals for up to one hundred people in need at least twice each year as part of an ongoing community service, as well as additional donations.  This year, 2019, St. Simon's will provide meals on Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, September 24.

Love and Caring Ministry

Love and Caring Ministries is a home for abused and homeless women.  They provide women with a safe haven from abusive relationships until they can find alternative arrangements.  Both women and children are fostered in a loving environment on a local farm.  Support also includes food, clothing, and furniture to enable these women reestablish themselves.

Boys Home of Virginia

This 1,400-acre campus is a school where boys can catch up academically.  Their vocational/technical center helps them develop develop needed work skills.  Our chapel supports them spiritually along with their recreational facilities to build them physically and socially.  Our location in the beautiful Alleghany Highlands allows them to learn more about themselves as they explore and enjoy the hills, swimming holes, and woodlands.  Each of these experiences gives a boy a better chance to become a successful man.

NAMI

We are proud to include among our parishioners the largest fund raiser (for the last seven years) for the annual walkathon in Richmond sponsored by NAMI, the National Association on Mental Illness.  NAMI Walks events bring together people of all ages and fitness levels to combat stigma, raise funds and promote awareness of mental illness.  St. Simon's supports our parishioner with generous contributions each year.

Home Visitation Ministry

Designated St. Simon's parishioners are available to visit anyone who is recovering from an illness, injury or hospital procedure and/or is homebound.  Both prayers and eucharistic service are available during the visits.  Contact the Sr. Warden or email the church.

Chase's Pet Ministry

One of our young parishioners has begun his own Christmas campaign to provide extra food ad toys for forgotten pets at the rescued centers.  This is now an annual event for our Congregation.

Service Animals for Navy SEALs

We are pleased to donate to provide service animals to Navy SEALs living with post traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) or traumatic brain injury (TBI).  With the help of volunteers they organize fundraisers, community-building events, and in-depth training sessions for all volunteers.  See SEALserviceanimals.com for additional information.

NOTE:  In addition we contribute generously to various diocesan funds, such as Camp Chanco in Surry and the Episcopal Disaster Relief Funds as the need arises.  We also provide school supplies to deserving children as needed at the beginning of each school year.
